The Making of Sofia Vergara… A Gift From God
Discovered at the age of seventeen on a beach in Colombia, Sofia Vergara was always a striking figure being both statuesque and buxom. With a deeply religious upbringing as her foundation, Sofia struggled to embrace her natural sex appeal that garnered her hordes of attention. After getting seeking and permission from her Catholic school teachers, she dove head first into the secular life and embraced her role as a public figure and was featured in commercials and other modelling gigs. Her first Pepsi commercial at the start of her career set the trend for things to come for this playful actress who had a knack for being beautifully goofy.

Her big television debut came in 1995 when she was cast in the Mexican telenovela “Acapulco, Cuerpo y Alma”. She quickly found her stride and went on to co-host two television shows for Spanish-language television network Univisión in the late 1990s which increased her exposure and appeal and solidifying her as a Latin American star.

Then, at the age of twenty Sofia, and her then husband and childhood sweetheart Joe Gonzalez, had a son by the name of Manolo González Ripoll-Vergara. Sadly after a brief two year marriage the couple divorce in 1993.

In the late 90s after the untimely murder of her brother Rafael in Bogota, Columbia Sofiia packed up her son, her mother and her sister and moved to Miami, FL to continue and expand her career options. Unfortunately all was not roses for the actress, and in 2000 she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and underwent surgery to have a thyroid gland removed.

Next up were supporting parts in the Tyler Perry movies “Meet the Browns” and “Madea Goes to Jail.” ABC cast Vergara in several shows — 2007’s “Dirty Sexy Money” was a moderate success. In 2007 the actress also starred in the Spanish-language version of Desperate Housewives when the series premiered. Then 2009 brought the role that would change the actresses life for ever…..“Modern Family” was launched onto the world and Sofia became the show’s runaway star. To-date, according to Wikipedia “Modern Family” has amassed eight Television Critic Awards (3 wins), ten Directors Guild of America Awards (2 wins), twelve Golden Globe Awards (1 win), eighteen Writers Guild of America Awards (6 wins), twenty-five Screen Actors Guild Awards(5 wins), and eighty Primetime Emmy Awards (22 wins). It has also received four consecutive awards from the American Film Institute, awarding the best of television, one for each of its first four seasons (2010–2013).
